Job Description

General Purpose of Job: 
The scope of this position includes providing leadership and oversight for the support of Enterprise Data Analytics & Insights. This position supports Sparrow’s efforts to deliver on the vision of personalized, predictive, and proactive care. The Director will demonstrate expertise with data extraction, management, analysis with data analytics tools, be able to deliver outputs on a timeline, and lead others in the completion of related work. The Director will effectively document, develop, and communicate project plans and analytic findings with a variety of technical/non-technical stakeholders.

Broad leadership and management responsibilities for data analytics support, optimization, enhancements including business process analysis, requirements gathering, design & system build, software testing and system troubleshooting.  Directly responsible for carrying out the department’s mission of proactive planning, management and leadership through capacity planning and configuration management. Works with IT leadership team to help deploy and optimize applications, strategic and tactical planning; manages departmental budget. The position performs essential strategic, leadership, professional, operational, planning, analytical, and administrative duties in support of the Enterprise Analytics and Information Technology activities and goals. Position requires initiative, sound judgement, and good problem-solving skills.

  • Create a data-driven culture through proactive, predictive, and personalized analytics
  • Create and champion an Analytics & Insights center of excellence
  • Collaborate with business and IT teams to identify, prioritize, and develop a best-in-class cross functional BI and analytics framework
  • Create and employ advanced technical and predictive analytic tools designed to increase business value and patient care
  • Direct implementation and maintenance of data architecture and scalable self-service data and reporting functions
  • Support the expansion of analytic capabilities and delivery of innovative tools through researching and implementing new and emerging technologies
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and strategic direction to team.
  • Plan and encourage professional development of team through performance evaluations, career development counseling, and on-the-job training.
  • Responsible for recruitment, selection, retention, counseling, disciplining, and termination of all assigned departments.
  • Responsible for the satisfaction of the customers who use Health System data analytics and reporting tools
  • Achieves high levels of customer service by anticipating and responding to the analytics needs of internal and external customers.
  • Leads cross-functional teams with both technical and business resources from project inception to delivery ensuring analytics projects deliver value in a cost efficient manner.
  • Enables quality control by deploying and managing the necessary processes, methodologies and infrastructure across all aspects of the analytics life cycle from idea to customer acceptance
  • Directs and leads the development, communication, and implementation of analytics strategic plans and annual goals and objectives.
  • Develops and directs capital and operating budgets with specific responsibility for analytics teams
  • Oversees selection, implementation, and maintenance of solutions and tools to support analytics initiatives across the Health System.
  • Manages contracts, vendors, and relationships related to data analytics initiatives
  • Represents the enterprise analytics team in activities regarding the development of organization policies and procedures and participates in organizational committees as appropriate
  • Assist in day-to-day production issues, act as escalation point to resolve urgent and/or complex client issues and manage client expectations. 

Job Requirements

General Requirements
  • None.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of Data Analytics, Data Science, IT, or healthcare industry work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing cross functional teams
  • Experience with data warehousing, data science, analytics, or visualization tools
  • Direct implementation and maintenance of data architecture and scalable self-service data and reporting functions
  • Bachelor’s in business, healthcare, technology or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Master’s Degree in business, healthcare, technology or related field – preferred
